The SIM-free version of the HTC Hero is now available to order from Amazon.

The Hero is HTC's latest Android handset to hit the shelves, and if you've been palpably salivating in anticipation of the Hero's release then you'll be interested to hear that Amazon.co.uk has now got the device up for pre-order, priced at £429.99.

The handset features a 320x480 HVGA touchscreen display, 5-megapixel camera with autofocus and A-GPS alongside the full complement of Google software.

Connectivity wise the handset performs well, with Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE for global roaming and Wi-Fi and HSPA (7.2Mbps downstream, 2Mbps Up) for zippy internet access and uploading photos.

If you're interested in taking a closer gander then point your browser at Amazon.co.uk, where this fine piece of kit is retailing for £429.99 inc. VAT and delivery. The current estimated shipping date is the 15th July, but online estimates can change.

If that sounds a bit rich for you and you'd prefer a contract option then Orange has announced that it will be releasing the handset on its network in early July, so, expect it any time now.
