An in-depth hands-on with the upcoming Nokia N900 has surfaced online alongside shots of the Maemo 5 OS that will be replacing the traditional Symbian S60 OS, present on current high-end Nokias.
The Nokia N900, or as it was apparently known internally RX51, has been revealed by top leakster Eldar over at Mobile-Review.com.
The report indicates that most of the N900's specs will be the same as the N97, so that means the same resistive touchscreen display, HSDPA, A-GPS and 5-megapixel Carl Zeiss autofocus snapper.s
Also like the N97, the 900 will feature a landscape sliding Qwerty keyboard, albeit minus the angled screen arrangement.
As Eldar points out, the launch of the N900 may not so much be about the new hardware (particularly given its similarity to the recently launched N97) but more the marking of a new era in the use of Linux-based Maemo in its smartphones.
If the report is accurate we can expect to see the N900 on the shelves “late in 2009” with a price of somewhere around €550.
With launch seemingly a way off, we're not expecting any announcements from Nokia HQ just yet but we'll be sure to bring you the official word as soon as it hits.
