The long-awaited Palm Pre will be available in a few weeks from O2, for a little under what you'd pay for the iPhone 3GS

The UK’s exclusive distributor of the Palm Pre, O2, has confirmed that the device is to go on sale on the 16th October.
However, it’s not going to be cheap. In order to get the device for free, you’ll have to stump up £44.02 a month for 18 months or £34.26 for a full two years. If you’re after a less expensive monthly outlay, you’ll have to pay a shade under a hundred pounds to get the Pre in your grasp. Although pricey, this still leaves the Pre a cheaper option than a 16GB iPhone 3GS.
Before its release in the US, the Palm Pre was touted as the top-ranking iPhone killer. However, since then Pre hysteria has calmed down after most reviews of the device were lukewarm. Some of the initial concerns were down to issues with the phone’s fledgling WebOS system though, so we might be in for a more comfortable touchdown.
Does it make up for the 3-month wait we’ve had to endure for the handset to actually make it to our shores? Not really, but we’re still keen to get a look in.
