Some of the first shots of Sony Ericsson's Xperia X3 have been released.

The X3, codenamed Rachael, is the company's first Android based smartphone and is expected to lead the Xperia series, competing at the top of the market.

It will be powered by Qualcomm’s rapid SnapDragon processor and will boast an 8-megapixel camera.

The screen is a 4-inch, 854x480 pixel number, and both Wi-Fi and GPS will be included.

With up to 16GB of memory the X3 will be available in either black or white.

Despite no official word on price or availability, rumours suggest the initial prediction of an early 2010 release was wide of the mark with a late 2009 release more likely.
