Google launching handset in UK

A Google-branded handset will be on the shelves before 2010 in the UK

Published on Oct 22, 2009

An 'own-brand' Google handset is in the works, according to online reports.

The handset will apparently feature the uper-speedy Qualcomm Snapdragon processor as seen on the Toshiba TG01 and will be with us before the end of the year.

There are some suggestions that HTC could be in line to pick up the manufacturing gig for the Google Phone, a suggestion that's given weight due to the two companies' pre-existing Android relationship.

In a move that may be seen as recalcitrant, Google will only be making the phone available through retail channels, and not through network-specific deals, and with this in mind we wonder if it indicates a low-mid range offering for the UK's first Google-branded handset.
