Droid revealed as series, not lone handset

The Motorola Droid Android phone will be part of a larger Droid series over on US carrier Verizon

The Android phone we’ve been calling the Motorola Droid – or occasionally the Sholes – has been revealed to be part of a range dubbed Droid.
So, unless it’s going to be called the rather unwieldy Motorola Droid Droid, the final name remains unconfirmed.
Engadget has reported that the phone may well just be known as the Droid when it launches on Verizon. However, there’s also word of another phone to bulk up the Droid series line-up, going under the name of Droid Eris. It looks a little more like the Android handsets we’ve seen so far – splicing the layout of the HTC Hero with the curves of the Magic.
This is no surprise though when you consider that it’s manufactured by HTC. Complicating matters further, we can only assume that Droid is in fact a Verizon brand name rather than one formulated by a manufacturer.
The Droid Eris is set to be released on November 6 in the US on Verizon. Sadly, we’ve no new details about when the HTC Eris or Motorola Sholes may arrive on our shores.
