Verizon's highly anticipated Android Droid handset from Motorola has been given an official release date

Published on Oct 29, 2009

Before now we knew that the Motorola Droid was coming out in the US sometime in November, but now we know the exact date.

Verizon Wireless has officially announced that it will hit the shelves on November 6, for $199 on contract (after a $100 mail-in rebate). The DROID is just the first in a series of Android-powered phones launching on the carrier.

Features on the new Droid include visual voicemail, a 3.7-inch display, (854 x 480 resolution), 5-megapixel camera (with dual-LED flash), a bundled 16GB memory card and a beta version of Google Maps Navigation.

And there is even more, including a slide-out Qwerty keyboard, 3G, Wi-Fi, voice-activated search and over-the-air Amazon MP3 downloads. With all this you can’t blame customers for being excited.
