Apple blocks Palm Pre iTunes sync again

Thanks to a new iTunes update, the Palm Pre can no longer synchronise with the latest version of the software

Apple has once more blocked the Palm Pre from synchronising with iTunes in its latest update of the software.

iTunes 9.0.2 locks Palm Pre devices out of its gates, meaning Pre users will have to manual transfer music to the device if they want to use the latest version of iTunes – or at least for now. The last time Apple disabled Palm Pre support in iTunes, a Palm firmware update restored this functionality fairly swiftly.

It’s been something of an – admittedly fairly petty – battle of attrition between the two portable device veterans over the last few months. While we can understand that Apple wants to protect its software, not to mention its powerful ‘walled garden’ approach to its devices, but equally we can see that iTunes support is a great calling card for the Pre as an iPhone rival.

We expect this particular fight hasn’t seen its end yet, but for now it looks like Apple is winning.
