This illustrated step-by-step guide shows you how to put your POP email settings onto your Nokia N95 8GB

If you use a POP3 email account such as a web based email or email provided by your Internet Service Provider, you can pick up messages to and send them from your Nokia N95 8GB.

You might want to do this on a regular basis or just sometimes, but the procedure involved in setting up an account on the phone is the same.

If you find you have difficulty configuring all the necessary settings on your phone, you can visit Nokia’s online setup service at the Nokia UK support site

This provides standardised settings for many of Nokias phones and can automatically configure your phone via text message. You will need to supply some details about your Internet Service Provider and network operator.

Set up your mailbox
Tap the Nokia Menu Key and choose Messaging. Scroll down to Mailbox and click. You will be told ‘no mailbox defined. Define now?’ Choose Yes.

A wizard starts which walks you through the process. First choose Start with the left selection key. Choose your mailbox type using the scroll key and clicking to ensure the correct one is selected with a dot to the left of its name. If you have webmail or an email address from your Internet service provider, choose POP3. Click Next.

Type in your email address. Use the star key to pull up a symbols list so you can choose the ‘@’ symbol and the 1 key for the dot. Choose Next.

Enter your incoming mail server then choose Next and your outgoing mail server then choose Next. Now choose your ‘access point’. The choices will depend on which operator you are using at the time and you may need to ask your operator for the right information. You can get the phone to ask you every time if that might be useful. Make your selection then choose Next.

Now give this mailbox a name. Make it meaningful, something like ‘Gmail email’ if your email provider is Gmail, for example. When this has been entered choose Finish and you will be told ‘Mailbox setup complete. Settings can be viewed and edited in e-mail settings’. Click OK.

Personalise the settings
Now you need to tell the Nokia N95 8GB how to behave when it is picking up and creating email.

When viewing the messaging main screen scroll to the mailbox you just set up and click it to open it. Now choose Options then E-mail settings. From here there are several sets of settings to make.

-	Choose User settings.

In the space under My name type your own name. This will be used to identify you instead of your email address when the recipient device supports that.

Under Send Messages click the scroll key to choose between sending messages immediately they are created or at the next manual connection

Under Send copy to self click the scroll key to choose between copying yourself in to all emails sent or not

Under Include Signature click the scroll key to choose whether you want to include a pre-defined signature on all emails. If you choose yes, you are asked to define the signature now.

Under New email alerts click the scroll key to choose whether you want the N95 to tell you when new email has arrived. This is useful if you have chosen to retrieve emails automatically – see ‘automatic retrieval’ below.

-	Choose Retrieval settings.

This is where you tell the phone how much of each email to retrieve. You might want to retrieve less if you think you will end up spending a lot on connection time. The choices are; to retrieve headers only, to set a size limit on downloads, or to retrieve messages and their attachments.

-	Choose Automatic Retrieval.

If you need to get your email regularly then you can set up the phone to pick up messages at regular intervals. Choose Disabled if you want to pick up email manually

-	Choose Connection settings.

Here you can change any of the basic email settings such as incoming and outgoing email servers and can give the phone your login password

Check out our Internet Settings page here

The application should be stored to the mass storage memory rather than the device memory.

Using PC Suite
If you're using a PC you need to have the right version of PC Suite. You can download a suitable version of PC Suite here.

Instructions for installing N-Gage to your Nokia N95 8GB are simple:

Start PC Suite on your PC.

Connect your N95 8GB to your PC using the supplied USB cable.

Select PC Suite Mode in the dialog box on the N95 8GB.

Click the Get Connected button on PC Suite and follow the on-screen directions to enable the connection to your device.

Click the Install Applications icon on PC Suite.

Follow the on screen directions to transfer and install the N-Gage application (n-gage.sisx) file from your desktop to your N95 8GB.

Start the N-Gage application on your N95 8GB by clicking the N-Gage icon in the Applications folder.

Now you're ready to create a player name and visit the N-Gage games Showroom to browse, trial and buy games.

Using Mass Storage Mode/Data Transfer (for PC and Mac users)

Connect your N95 8GB to your computer using the supplied USB cable.

On your N95 8GB, select Data transfer (Figure 1). A new theme can transform the look of the phone's menu system, its standby wallpaper and screensavers, as well as the ringtone. A theme is a package of elements that can be installed all in one go, with just a few button presses.

What you get in a theme will depend on how it's been designed and who's created it. It could include wallpapers, screensavers, backgrounds, menu icons, alert tones, start-up noises and button tones or just some of these elements. It can add fresh colour, a bit of design swagger and some individual customisation to your handset.

Nokia supplies its mobiles with a selection of ready-made themes pre-loaded, so you can swap them as you choose. But you can also download additional themes, either from Nokia's download service - there are links available in the N95 8GB's menus - or from numerous third party services.

There are an astonishing variety of themes available for Nokia phones, to suit all tastes. Whether you want a theme based on your favourite football club, movie, band, TV show or celebrity, or something arty, funny or unususal, there are plenty of sites offering numerous theme downloads over the air or online to purchase or get free of charge.

You can find plenty of websites on the internet offering downloads. You can download them to your PC in a few clicks, and then copy files over to your Nokia N95 8GB using its USB data cable or via Bluetooth wireless connectivity.

Installing a new theme
It's quick and easy to install a new theme on the Nokia N95 8GB, whether it's one already loaded onto the device by Nokia or one you have downloaded yourself.

Press the Nokia Menu key, on the left of the main navigation pad (Figure 1). Topping the list is Nokia's Download themes option (Figure 8).

You can preview the themes available on the phone before changing your existing theme, or if you already know which one you want to set, you can choose to set the new theme quickly without previewing it.

Setting the theme
If you already know which theme you want to install, simply scroll down to the name of the theme and click to select (Figure 9).

When selected, the new theme will be installed on your N81 8GB in a second or two. A message will pop up informing you that the selected theme has been installed (Figure 10), and you will be able to see straight away that the background to your menus has changed (Figure 11).

Preview first
If, however, you want preview the theme first, in the Themes menu scroll down to the name of the theme you want to preview. Then press the Options softkey (bottom left of the display).

Highlight Preview (Figure 12) and press select. Among its key features is built in A-GPS (Assisted - Global Positioning System) technology, and a Nokia Maps navigation application which enables you to pinpoint your location on an onscreen map.

The Maps application enables you to look up routes and get detailed navigation instructions for these. You can plan routes from your current position to a specific location or plan routes from a defined starting point to another finishing point. The phone can calculate the route in a few moments, and it is displayed as a series of step-by-step, turn-by-turn text itinerary or on a map illustrating your route.

With a voice navigation upgrade from Nokia, the GPS system can then guide you to that location using step-by-step instructions and voice guidance as you go along, almost instantly adjusting for your changing position as you move along, just like a standalone in-car Sat Nav system. With the N95 8GB's Maps application, you can choose instructions for driving or for travelling on foot.

You can get routing instructions to numerous places, searchable by address, or for specific locations from a large number of categories containing "points of interest" . There are thousands of preloaded "points of interest" across a wide range of categories - from stations and tourist sites to bars and petrol stations.

You can browse by category to find a nearby point of interest under a particular category - for example, the nearest branch of a bank or Thai restaurant. Or you can add your own locations you may want to look up regularly to the Maps' "Landmark" list.

The Nokia N95 8GB comes out of the box loaded with mapping information for the whole of the UK and Ireland so you can plan routes quickly and easily. If you go to another country covered by the Nokia Maps software, you can download maps as you go along, which are updated in the phone's memory.

It's also possible to upgrade the Nokia N95's Nokia Maps satellite navigation software, adding guides and step-by-step voice navigation over the air - although you have to pay extra for these.

Planning new routes
In standby mode, press the main Menu button (Figure 1).

In the main menu, highlight Maps and press the central navigation scroll key to select (Figure 2)

This launches the Nokia Maps application, which takes a few seconds to load (Figure 3).
You may get a message onscreen "No Internet connection. Please check your network settings." If so, follow the instructions in the section Maps Network Settings (below).

After a few seconds a map showing your last GPS location fix will appear on the display while the GPS receiver locks onto satellite signals to determine your new location.

Press Options, highlight Find place and press select (Figure 4).

Highlight GPS position and press OK (Figure 5). When sufficient satellites have been located to calculate your position, your current location is displayed on a map onscreen (Figure 6).

You can now look up navigation instructions for routes to places from your current location, or plan routes by defining separate starting points and destinations.

Plan a route from your current location
You can quickly get navigation instructions from your present position to another location. When you have your current position displayed onscreen, press the central navigation button. This brings up a Use this place menu (Figure 7).

You can now set your present location as the starting point of your route by scrolling down to Route from. Press OK (Figure 8).You are now presented with a screen showing your current location defined as your start point in a panel marked "From" (Figure 9).

You must now select a destination for the "To" panel. You have choice of options to help you select a destination point.

These include:

Landmark - Locations you have previously bookmarked yourself. Scroll down to Find place and press select (Figure 31).

You can search for points of interest, addresses or locations under several headings (Figure 32):

GPS position - Your current GPS coordinates will be calculated to give you a precise location you can use for navigating

Address - You can search for an exact address or street by entering the appropriate details; you can search just using a postcode, if available

Keyword search - You can search across all points of interest categories by tapping in a few letters of its name or description - such as a restaurant name, business title, tourist attraction and so on. Press OK when you're satisfied with the name.

You can now choose to label it for one or more category - scroll down to the appropriate ones, click those required and press OK (Figure 37).

This location is now saved to Landmarks for you to look up later.

==================================================================

Maps Networks Settings

If you see the message 'No Internet connection.

You can set the shortcut options for the Nokia N95 8GB's standby page quickly and easily, to line up fast access to your own favourite features

When the Nokia N95 8GB is in standby mode, near the top of display there are a row of small icons that provide fast shortcuts to seven features or applications (Figure 1).

These form part of what Nokia calls its Active Standby display - a way of presenting the numerous features, functions and applications of this Symbian S60 smartphone in an easily accessible way. It comprises the row of shortcut icons plus further lines of application information, including calendar events, music player track playing, search and WLAN scanning status.

The default Active Standby can be switched off so you get a plainer, less busy standby screen (Figure 2), but the Active Standby should make it easier for you to operate the key functions of the N95 8GB.

The icons, arranged in a row just below the clock, are pre-set by Nokia, and will cover functions such as contacts, new text message, web, clock, profiles, Bluetooth and camera. By using the navigation scroll key you can select the required icon, and with a click of the central button select the function. It is immediately opened.

But there are many other standby screen shortcuts to other features and internet sites you can use instead of the default ones Nokia chooses - currently there are around 70 separate functions you can assign to each of the seven icons, plus in addition you can also replace the icons with quick links to your favourite bookmarked or Nokia pre-loaded internet sites.

The numerous options you can assign to the shortcut icons reflect the functionality you get with the Nokia N95. They can range from music player, games, RealPlayer or Bluetooth wireless keyboard to applications manager, modem activation, SIM services or Push to Talk. You can get fast access to a huge variety of functions and applications - including ones you've added to the N95 8GB yourself.

It's easy to change these standby shortcuts too, so you can modify the N95 8GB to work the way that's best for you. Here's how...

Changing shortcut icons on the Active Standby screen

Press the Menu key (Figure 3) to access the main menu.

Scroll to highlight Tools (Figure 4). Press the central scroll key to select.

Scroll to highlight Settings (Figure 5). Press select.

Choose General (Figure 6). Press select.

Choose Personalisation (Figure 7). Press select.

Scroll down to highlight Standby mode (Figure 8). Press select.

Scroll down to highlight Active standby apps. (Figure 9). Press select.

You are now presented with a list of seven Shortcut options, representing each of the shortcut icons on the Active Standby display (Figure 10). A box next to the shortcut indicates which function or application it currently represents.

They are listed Shortcut 1 to Shortcut 7, with Shortcut 1 the icon on the left of the active standby display, and the others running from left to right across, with Shortcut 7 the icon on the far right of the display.

Scroll down to highlight the Shortcut you want to change (in this example, we'll change the Shortcut 7 Camera icon, but the procedure is the same for each Shortcut) (Figure 11). Press select.

A list of options appears onscreen - although you get a view of only six at a time (Figure 12). Scroll through the list until you find the shortcut you want to add to replace the existing icon.

In this example, we're selecting the Maps application for GPS satellite navigation, although it could be any one of dozens listed.

Highlight the application required and press the OK softkey option (Figure 13).

You are taken back to the Active Standby apps. menu. The box next to the modified Shortcut option has a new application name - Maps (Figure 14).

To change more of the shortcut icons, select another Shortcut options and repeat the process above.

If you have finished making changes, press the red Call End key to return to the standby screen.

On the standby screen, the icons listed have now changed. In our example, the Camera icon (far right in Figure 1) has been replaced by the Maps icon (Figure 15).

A selection of digital photographs taken by the 5-megapixel camera equipped Nokia N95 8GB to demonstrate its camera qualities

One of the highlight features of the multi-talented Nokia N95 8GB smartphone is its 5-megapixel camera. To optimise the quality of photographs, Nokia has equipped the N95 8GB with high-end Carl Zeiss optics and Tessar lens. The phone is capable of producing high quality images that can be printed out in standard 6x4 photo size or larger.

The N95 8GB's shooting ability is enhanced too by its autofocus system, macro shooting, and built in flash with red-eye reduction.

As well as the main camera on the back of the phone, this 3G phone has a front-facing camera for video calls above the display. The screen itself is a large 2.8-inch, 16 million-colour array, a bright and clear display that's a great platform for viewing images and video.

The Nokia N95 8GB's video shooting capabilities are also impressive; it can capture MPEG-4 video in VGA quality at 30 frames per second, delivering images that are among the best quality yet produced by a mobile phone.

Unlike the original N95, the N95 8GB doesn't have a sliding lens cover to protect and activate the camera. Instead, you can fire up the camera with a press of a quick access button on the side of the phone that doubles up as the camera capture button. The zoom (volume control) rocker button is on the same side, making for a comfortable control set-up when holding the camera in landscape mode.

The camera has plenty of setting control options, as well as decent fully automatic mode. Macro or portrait settings can be selected, as well as landscape for longer distance shots. There are also night shot and sports options, and you can also define your own all-in-one setting package. Flash settings for red-eye, on, off or auto are to hand too.

White balance can be adjusted from automatic to sunny, cloudy, incandescent or fluorescent, to suit varying lighting conditions, and settings can be individually increased or decreased for exposure, sharpness, contrast. ISO can be set manually to low, medium or high.

Other shooting controls include a timer option ( 2, 10 or 20 seconds ), plus a sequence mode that allows you to shoot in 6 shots bursts or time lapse shots either every 10 seconds, 30 seconds, 1 minute, 5 minutes or 10 minutes. Colour effects can be imposed on shots too, and you can help frame shots by pulling up gridlines on the screen.

The N95 8GB's camera can capture still images at five resolution settings, ranging from VGA (640x480 pixels) up to 5-megapixels (2592x1944 pixels).

Results from the N95 can be impressive. The phone is able to reproduce fine quality images that are bright and rich in colour. The automatic exposure system adjusts quickly and efficiently to changing lighting environments and produces a consistently high standard for images. The image processing speed on the N95 8GB appears to be quicker too than on the original N95 in comparative tests.

Captured images are usually crisp, with no noticeable problem with camera shake. The autofocus system is responsive too, while macro mode allows you to get sharp and precise for close ups.

As usual with a cameraphone, indoors and low-light shots aren't as impresisve as brighter outdoor images. Some digital "smoothing" is noticeable on some shots in low light, and portraits ofpeople can appear more real than real with an almost airbrushed appearance.

Overall though, the camera is easy to use, and can produce some very likeable, impressively sharp and detailed shots.

Nokia has upgraded its flagship multi-featured N95 smartphone with the even better-equipped N95 8GB, adding stacks of memory and more to the mix

The Nokia N95 has already been hugely successful for Nokia, but the N95 8GB isn't simply a refresh with the upholstery refurbished and more memory installed. The increase in internal flash storage to 8GB is certainly the headline-grabbing upgrade for this model, but Nokia has also made other significant improvements to the phone.

These aren't just on the surface - although there are noticeable changes. Inside, Nokia has improved the software performance of this 3G HSDPA and Wi-Fi enabled Symbian S60 smartphone, with the internal GPS satellite navigation system updated and more fully integrated in this model too.

Crucially, battery life has been enhanced by adding a higher capacity power pack - an essential upgrade for this pumped-up multimedia device that has enough memory to match an iPhone.

On the outside, the N95 8GB has been given a makeover, with a rather nifty black casing, replacing the silver look of the original. The next noticeable change is the display - it's been expanded in size from a 2.6-inch QVGA screen on the original to a 2.8-inch QVGA array.

This increase may not seem much, but side by side, the screen provides noticeably more viewing space. In a device that has a 5-megapixel camera, as well as excellent video playback facilities, a full web browser and the previously mentioned Sat Nav abilities, more screen inches mean a better all-round multimedia experience.

To demonstrate its video viewing finery, Nokia has included a full length movie - Spider-Man 3 - preloaded into the N95 8GB's memory. The smoothness of the playback and detail on the 16-million colour display are impressive, and you can even play the movie on your TV, using a supplied TV-Out AV cable. Of course, if superheroes aren't your thing, you can easily delete the movie file and use the freed-up memory for more tunes or other content.

The overall size of the N95 8GB hasn't changed from the original. Measuring 99(h) x 53(w) x 21(d) mm, and weighing a slightly heavier 128g it's still one big, chunky pocketful of phone. The implications for that larger display, though, are a proportionate scaling down in size of the navigation control button array below the screen. However, although smaller, the central navigation control D-pad and accompanying control keys are effectively no more difficult to press and use day-to-day than the original N95's.

With so many options to choose from in this smartphone's software, the menu navigation system is surprisingly easy to use, thanks to cleverly thought out quick access options on the phone's Active Standby screen, and a separate multimedia menu key. The Active Standby page provides user-configurable icons on top of the screen that can be set up for quick access to seven features or applications, plus there are indicator bars on standby for calendar entries, messages, a search option and WLAN status - allowing you to scan for Wi-Fi hotspots and activate a connection with a couple of button clicks.

The multimedia button - on the opposite side of the control panel to the S60 "squiggle"-marked key - pulls up a rotating carousel of content. You can view and spin through recent music, videos, image gallery, games, contacts, internet sites visited, and maps. A click takes you directly to the content you're after. Very slick and intuitive.

The two-way slider gadgetry is still as effective too. Slide the screen up and you get a lovely big numberpad with large, rounded easy-to-use keys; slide it down, and above the display you a set of controls for the music and media players appears. Also, this action automatically changes the orientation of the screen to landscape mode, so you can quickly get a full widescreen view, maximising the screen space.

There's a video-calling camera on the front, above the display, although the main 5-megapixel shooter is naturally on the back. The lens cover and sliding switch on the original N95 has been left off this design, which some people may welcome. It reduces the chance of accidentally switching on the camera in a pocket or bag, but the flipside is less protection for the lens. This once again uses high-quality Carl Zeiss optics, which Nokia builds into its higher-end cameraphones.

If you're after high-quality cameraphone shots, the N95 can certainly deliver. It has a responsive autofocus system that utilises a two-step shutter mechanism to help get the right subject sharply in focus. A macro mode is included too to facilitate close in shooting, and there are a range of shooting setting adjustments you can make to optimise the camera's performance, including exposure compensation, white balance adjustment, ISO light sensitivity, contrast, sharpness and so on.

An LED flash on the back panel helps illuminate low light shooting too, and the flash settings include a red-eye reduction mode for people shots.

The camera can be engaged by pressing a quick access button on the side of the phone, which becomes the camera capture button when its held in camera-like landscape mode. There's a digital zoom, operated by the volume rocker button, but no optical zoom, unlike the 5-megapixel Samsung G800 we tested recently.

It's possible to capture very detailed, well balanced, colourful shots with the N95's camera - you can see some examples of shots taken with the Nokia N95 8GB, ad more details about its camera capabilities, in our article "Nokia N95 8GB camera samples".

Video capture with the main camera is exceptional too - far better quality than on most cameraphones, with footage captured at maximum VGA (640x480 pixels) resolution at 30 frames per second, giving smooth playback that looks great on a PC screen, and fine even outputted on to a television set with the TV-Out cable.

The N95 8GB is set up for you to share camera content online, with standard upload options for Flickr and Vox when you take pics. Inside the phone, there's a Nokia Lifeblog function that arranges texts, other messages and images in timeline blog-style fashion, which you can sync to your PC and then store online too, if you like

With 8GB of internal memory though, you'll most likely to look first to stacking that memory with tracks. This is easy to do using a PC connected to the phone by the supplied USB lead, and Nokia Nseries PC Suite software or Windows Media Player 11, with which it will sync tracks and other media. Alternatively, it's possible too to drag and drop tracks into the flash storage, or zap tracks to the phone using Bluetooth. Copying over using a MicroSD card isn't an option, however, as one casualty of the boost in memory capacity has been the loss of a MicroSD card expansion slot.

Naturally, with high-speed 3G HSDPA and Wi-Fi onboard, over the air downloading of tracks straight to the phone are other, high-speed, options. As well as access to your mobile network operator's download service, the N95 8GB is one of the first Nokia handsets to be equipped with support for the Nokia Music Store download service. You can buy and download tracks straight to the phone using the application that's tucked away in the Music folder. Tracks cost 80p each, plus the cost of the data download.

The music player itself has a user-friendly interface that will be intuitive for anyone who's used an MP3 player, with tracks arranged in familiar categories - playlists, artists, albums, genres and composers. You can use the dedicated slider buttons when tracks are playing in the background too, which is handy.

The quality of the onboard music player is very impressive, traks come across with depth and dynamism, and with plenty of volume and bass too. You can get a decent performance from the supplied earphones, although Nokia has usefully included a 3.5mm standard headphone jack that allows you to plug in a pair of your own cans for an upgraded sonic experience (which we'd always recommend).

The loudspeaker set up, with stereo speakers on either side of the phone, can belt out tunes pretty loudly and unusually clearly (if bass-lite as usual). There's support for podcast downloads too within the music folder, plus an FM radio too.

Like the first N95, the N95 8GB features an integrated GPS receiver inside, but the new model also includes Assisted-GPS (A-GPS) technology to speed up user positioning and accuracy. When necessary, A-GPS uses network-based location information as well as satellite signals to help pinpoint the user's position. The N95 8GB also includes Nokia Maps software inside for location finding and map routing, using 2D and 3D mapping and thousands of points of interest.

But unlike the N95, which has to load new maps and information over the air via a mobile network as required, the N95 8GB is pre-loaded with maps for the whole of the UK and Ireland - another benefit of having that 8GB onboard This makes for an overall slicker and more integrated sat nav experience; it locks onto satellites quicker when first started and getting location or route information is far swifter. For turn-by-turn voice directions, though, you still have to subscribe to an upgraded version of the service, as you do if you want city guides and so on.

The lack of MicroSD card slot also makes loading up with a third-party Sat Nav application like Co-Pilot that much more difficult than simply slotting in a memory card. On balance though, we much prefer the N95 8GB upgrade.

The Nokia N95 8GB is also equipped for users to enjoy other online Nokia multimedia content and community sharing services under Nokia's nascent Ovi umbrella brand. Initially these include the Nokia Video Centre service - offering downloads and steaming from multiple video sources - and Nokia's newly revamped N-Gage mobile gaming platform.

The N-Gage software on the N95 8GB we tested was still pre-launch, allowing us to demo games only, with an option to download the full application when it becomes available. The demo games - FIFA 07 and Asphalt Street Rules 3 - were impressively rendered on the large screen, but N-Gage promises more than just good graphics; the interactive element and sharing is a key component of the proposition, so we'll have to wait and see how it performs when it's fully launched.

As a Symbian S60 smartphone, the N95 8GB comes with a generous set of out-of-the-box features and applications, plus the capability to download others to customise the phone's functionality to your own tastes. A full Nokia Web Browser, with its Mini Maps navgation tool, can give fast access to the full internet at high speed, and pages are usually well resolved (apart from Flash elements).

Email is supported, and you can download and view attachments using onboard Quickoffice, Adobe PDF viewer and Zip manager software. The N95 8GB is enabled for Bluetooth wireless keyboards too, so if you need to do plenty of email typing you could opt for one of these. You can also buy upgrades for the supplied Quickoffice software to enable editing and creating of documents on the phone too.

Nokia has also included a Download! tool for browsing a catalogue of free and paid for apps, games and other content for the device (here you can get more Spider-Man themed content free too). Among the free downloads currently available to bring onboard over the air are F-Secure Anti-Virus software, Yahoo! Go, WidSets widgets, Mail for Exchange push email support, and a Nokia Sports Tracker app that can interact with the GPS receiver to track your training performance. There's plenty of flexibility in this smartphone.

As you'd expect from a top-end Nokia S60 smartphone, there's a comprehensive suite of personal information management features already loaded into the phone - calendar, contacts, to do lists and notes amongst them - and these can be synced with a PC using Nokia PC Suite software. The N95 8GB is well connected - stereo Bluetooth, infrared and USB 2.0, UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) connectivity, plus over the air remote synchronisation are all supported.

The TV-Out cable can also be used to connect the device to show what's on the phone's screen in your living room - so you can watch picture slideshows, videos, games or even video calls as they're being made, on a regular TV set.

As mentioned at the top, Nokia has significantly reinforced the battery life of the updated N95 8GB to cope with its multimedia workload, with up to 40 per cent more standby time and 30 per cent more talktime.

The standby battery life quoted by Nokia has been boosted to up to 280 hours (the original N95's pack gave 200 hours on 3G or 225 on GSM), while talktime has increased to 210 minutes on 3G or 300 minutes on GSM networks (compared to a maximum 160 minutes and 240 minutes, respectively, on the N95). The phone performance of the N95 8GB is exemplary, too, with excellent sound quality and call holding in a variety of network conditions.

The N95 has been Nokia's heavyweight champion since its launch, with a wide array of top-class multimedia features, GPS inside and a high-quality camera and music player. Its latest firmware upgrades have addressed and updated some of the software issues with the original N95.

Despite retaining its chunky size, the N95 8GB, with its huge mobile storage capacity, upgraded display, improved GPS performance, enhanced software and extended battery life really moves the model up to an even more impressive level.
