Set up Bluetooth on the Samsung S5600 to communicate with other devices, transfer files and stream music - we show you how

The Samsung S5600's Bluetooth feature allows you to connect the handset wirelessly to, and to communicate with, a wide selection of other Bluetooth-enabled devices, including headsets, stereo speakers, in-car kits, PCs, mobile phones and printers
You can use Bluetooth to transfer content - such as images, music, videos, contacts or other files - to or from the phone to other devices.
Bluetooth can be used to manage calls on a wireless handsfree kit or in-car set-up, and it can be used to stream music to other devices that support it, such as wireless speakers or stereo headphones. You can also use it to browse files on another 'paired' device, if it allows you to do so.
It's simple to set up and use, and enables you to communicate with other nearby Bluetooth-packing gadgets (usually within a 10 metre radius) wirelessly without direct line-of-sight view.
Activating Bluetooth
When you're accessing a content file - such as an image, video, music track or other item - you can select an option to send the file, either by message, email or Bluetooth. Bluetooth appears as an option even if you haven't activated it.
If you press Bluetooth, you're immediately taken into the Bluetooth activation screen (Figure 4).
However, if you want to switch Bluetooth on so your handset is ready to receive and send files, or to use with a handsfree headset or other device, here's how to do it...
- From the standby screen, press the Menu button (Figure 1).
- In the main Menu, press the Applications icon (Figure 2).
- In the Applications menu, press Bluetooth (Figure 3).
- Press the large button in the centre of the display to switch Bluetooth on (Figure 4).
- The central button turns blue to indicate it is on. Press Search to look for other nearby Bluetooth enabled devices. They will appear as smaller circles on the screen with their names displayed (Figure 5).
- You can 'pair' with any one of these devices by pressing its icon onscreen. You are asked for a PIN code (Figure 6). This can be as simple as you like - it's simply to pair the devices for the first so they can 'shake hands' when using Bluetooth, and you won't have to remember it.
- Type in the number in the phone (eg, 5555) and press done. The PIN code request will appear on the other device you're trying to pair with. Type in the same code and a message appears on both devices confirming pairing. The paired icon changes colour onscreen and a link appers (Figure 7).
Once paired, you can use Bluetooth for a variety of applications, including browsing files on another device and transferring data and other content. Press the paired device to see a list of options available (Figure 8).
Once Bluetooth is active and you will be able to communicate with other Bluetooth-enabled devices. There are other settings, however, that you you may want to adjust, depending on how you would like to use Bluetooth (see below).
- After you have finished using Bluetooth you may want to turn off Bluetooth to save power. To deactivate it, follow the above procedure to get to the Bluetooth screen (Figure 4). Press the large central button and it will be switched off.
Bluetooth settings
When you are working with other devices, such sending files to another phone or receiving them from a PC, you may want to make it visible and easily identifiable so it can be distinguished from other nearby devices. In the Tocco's Bluetooth settings, you can 'name' your phone and change it's visibility status quickly and easily.
Naming your Samsung S5600
Follow the procedures outlined above to switch on Bluetooth.
- In the Bluetooth screen, press Settings (Figure 5).
- In the Settings menu, the default name of your phone will displayed in the panel under My phone's name (Figure 9). Press the panel if you want to change it.
- The phone's text entry numberpad appears. Type in the new name you wish to assign to your phone (Figure 10). Press Done.
The name will now be changed in the phone's Settings, so that other nearby devices searching for Bluetooth-enabled devices will see that name displayed – provided your phone's Bluetooth visibility is switched on (Figure 11).
Visibility on your Samsung S5600
Out of the box, visibility is switched off, so other mobile users searching with Bluetooth won't be able to 'see' your phone until you switch it on. You may or may not want to do this; by leaving visibility off, you prevent unwanted communication from other devices.
- To turn on visibility, follow the above procedures to switch on Bluetooth. In the Bluetooth screen, press Settings (Figure 5).
- Under My phone's visibility, press the On panel (Figure 11).
- You can now select Always, which leaves visibility on all the time when Bluetooth is switched on (Figure 12), or choose the Custom setting. The Custom option enables you to define how long visibility stays on for once Bluetooth has been switched on (Figure 13), using a slider to select the number of minutes.
- When you've selected the option you require, press Save. Your phone will now be visible to other Bluetooth devices.
- To switch visibility off, in the Settings panel (Figure 11), press the Off option under My phone's visibility. Press Save.
